Thirteen runners have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2016 Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m) at Doomben Racecourse; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Artlee remains outright $2.90 favourite in 2016 BRC Sprint betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Religify ($6.50), Coolring ($7) and Charmed Harmony ($8).
Will Artlee justify favouritism and win the 2016 BRC Sprint, or will one of his talented rivals post an upset?
Artlee will contest Saturday’s Group 3 on a one week turn around, but is drawn ideally in barrier 3, has been charged with carrying only 55.5kgs and will be partnered by leading hoop Michael Cahill, and represents terrific value at current BRC Sprint odds of $2.90 for success. Stamping himself as one to watch through an impressive 2015 autumn campaign, Artlee charged home to win the Country Championship Final (1400m) at Randwick on Day 2 of The Championships before taking out the Listed Luskin Star Stakes (1300m). Kept to a light spring campaign, the Excellent Art gelding clearly required a run when resuming this time for ninth in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m), but responded with a big run for third in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) on April 30th.
The Gerald Ryan-trained Bachman is proven performer at the class and distance of the race and is simply over the 2016 BRC Sprint odds at his current quote of $9 for success, or $2.95 to finish in the first three. Posting four wins and five minors through twenty career starts so far, Bachman was a standout over summer; winning a Randwick sprint over 1200m on December 5th before repeating the dose in the Listed Goldmarket Quality (1300m). Resuming this time for third in the Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes (1100m), the All American gelding placed fifth in the talent-rich Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m) on March 26th but was completely luckless in transit in the Hall Mark Stakes last time.
Rock Sturdy ($15)
Rock Sturdy has been charged with carrying 58.5kgs in the BRC Sprint, but is drawn well in barrier 7, will be partnered by leading hoop Hugh Bowman and represents great value as an each-way bet. Rock Sturdy is arguably the class horse of the 2016 BRC Sprint field and while unable to make much of an impact in his two most recent starts, was unlucky to be beaten by the bob of a head in the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) first-up this time. Having received a brief freshen-up and trialled well, the Fastnet Rock entire is worth consideration for a bet this weekend.
